Each Year, We Remember

Memory markers are a way to remember those we have lost to suicide and to remind us why this cause is so important.

We are sorry for your loss.

Each year, we place memory markers along the race course on the Memory Mile for runners and walkers to honor the memory of loved ones lost to suicide.

Making a Memory Marker for Your Loved One

Family and friends create the memory markers with pictures, poems or art to tell the story of a life lost. You can see examples of some memory markers in this video from a previous run. If you would like to participate by making a memory marker in honor of a loved one, need assistance making it, need help finding supplies, or have any questions, please contact us using the form below and we will be in touch to help.

Memory Marker Drop-Off

If you wish to place a memory marker at the event, there are a few ways you can get them to us:

  • You may bring your memory marker to the Heritage Park Pavilion in Stony Plain on Saturday, September 7 from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM and give it to a volunteer working on race setup that day.

  • You may bring your memory marker to the race package pickup at the TransAlta Tri-Leisure Centre on Friday, September 6 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM or Saturday, September 7 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

  • You may bring your memory marker to the Heritage Park Pavilion on race day, Sunday, September 8, by 7:00 AM so it can be placed on the Memory Mile in time for the race.

Memory Marker Ceremony

At the end of the run, memory markers are gathered from the race course by our team and returned to the Heritage Park Pavilion. Markers are walked in as part of a ceremony of remembrance. You and your family may choose to carry your memory marker during the ceremony or have a Rotarian volunteer carry it.

Taking Your Marker Home

We are unable to store memory markers from year to year. Unless otherwise arranged for pickup at a date following the race, please take your memory marker home at the end of the ceremony. We can arrange for alternative pick-up times and locations should you not be able to stay for the whole event. Please contact us using the form below to specifically to make these arrangements.
